Honda HA-420 HondaJet
The Honda HA-420 HondaJet is the first aircraft available to the business aviation market to be developed by the Honda Aircraft Company, Inc. (a wholly owned subsidiary of Honda Motor Company, Ltd.). In 1986, Honda began research in Japan on both small aircraft and jet engines. After many studies held on composite materials, part dynamics, compact-fuel efficient jet-engines and hundreds of altitude tests, HondaJet takes its first test flight on December 3, 2003.
The main design innovations of this aircraft include a patented over-the-wing engine mount design, which reduces drag at high speed to improve cruise efficiency. It also counts with a natural-laminar flow fuselage to maximize aerodynamics by helping to achieve reduced drag. An advanced all-composite fuselage structure lowers weight and improves efficiency; and a compact, high-powered HF-120 turbofan engine provides maximum performance with high fuel efficiency. The HondaJet will include the touch screen Garmin G3000 avionics system which is totally software-based. This means: You do not need to change hardware in order to upgrade or fix your flight systems; just a few clicks of the mouse and the system upgrades and fixes itself.
It is a compact jet designed for business travel whose combination of lightweight materials, aerodynamics and the efficient engines gives much higher fuel efficiency than similar aircraft. Featuring exceptional environmental performance, compact jet HondaJet proceeds rapidly toward full commercialization and plans to begin sales in 2012.
